Family begins with sugar

Ethanol

Following the government’s policy on the research and development of renewable and alternative energy in order to create stable energy resources for the population to use sustainably, KI Sugar Group established KI Ethanol Co., Ltd. in order to produce ethanol from molasses.

The company was granted license from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency Promotion and Biofuel Development to produce fuel grade ethanol for blending with gasoline to create gasohol. KI Ethanol Co., Ltd. has a production capacity of 250,000 liters per day and is supported by the Thailand Board of Investment.

Biogas

KI Sugar Group has a policy to use energy most sustainably and efficiently.
The company sees the importance and determines to reduce the negative environmental impact. It realizes the need to cope with the changes in the surrounding air quality, which caused the company to study the use of
spent wash liquor to produce biogas and establish KI Biogas Co., Ltd.

KI Bio Gas Co., Ltd. produces biogas and electricity by using
two types of technology including:

Complete Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) with biogas
production capacity of 45,120 cubic meter per day

Modify Cover Lagoon with biogas production capacity
of 134,350 cubic meter per day

The biogas will be used for the following:

Fuel to generate electricity by using 4 gas engines with a
capacity of 4 MW (1 MW per gas engine) for the company’s
ethanol production process and sell 1.2 MW to Electricity
Generating Authority of Thailand

Fuel for the 2 sets of ethanol plant boilers to produce
15 tons of steam per hour

The company is registered as a Clean Development Mechanism
Project of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Electricity

KI Sugar Group realizes the need to cope with the changes
in the surrounding air quality by decreasing the reliability
on importing coal, a form of fossil fuel that causes the
emission of greenhouse gases, to generate electricity.
Bagasse, a by-product from sugar manufacturing process
and spent wash liquor, a by-product from ethanol production
process are used to generate electricity.
